Average Items Per Sale is a calculation based on the number of units sold divided by the number of sales made for a given period
If Mr. Smith bought 3 items in a single purchase, it would count as 1 sale. Let's assume then that this was the only sale made for today, the average items per sale would then be 3. No matter how items were purchased, be it 9 or 12 items, it would still be an average of 9 or 12 items sold per sale.
Now assuming that 2 customers made purchases today, which translate to 2 sales
- Customer A purchased 5 items
- Customer B purchased 1 item
Making a total of 6 items / by 2 sales (2 customers) = 3 Avg. Items Per Sale
